Default Survival Man & Man vs. Wild

Been watching SurvivalMan most of the afternoon on our cable tv Discovery Channel.

Tend to like the Enthusiastic voice of the guy in Man vs. Wild better, but both have cool tips.

Survival man carries his own small cameras with no crew, recording himself. He must work hard because he has to walk back to the cameras a lot of time.

The ex-British Special Forces guy with the accent on Man vs. Wild is followed by camera people who apparently offer him no aid. I have a feeling they are using a helicopter to drop guys below him, because ain't no way someone can carry cameras down some of the crevices that guy is going down.

Cool tip today was Survival man biting the end point off an Agave plant partially and yanking it and about a foot of fibers out of the big leaf. Said it could be used as needle and thread. Quite tough. He yanked on it to show the strength. Suture? Mend clothing? Whatever.

They get dropped off in Alaska, the Outback, Deserts, Mountains, South American jungles, etc., and survive.

One guy mainly has his clothes and his knife.

The other has little more. Might strip a vehicle a bit if he strands himself like when he ran out of fuel in the desert in the last episode I watched. He was hurtin from heat in that one. Worse than he expected with heat headaches and dehydration.

Basically, he got by for a few days but the Kalihari Desert kicked his ass. Probably the most difficult situation he dealt with.

I got this email a while back and Bear Grills used his camera guys and a couple other folks to help him through a few rough spots. Survivor man is the real deal by far, he has to lug around 100lbs worth of camera gear and make twice as many trips to film his own work. Thats a huge problem when you can barely take care of yourself with out any luggage. Bear Grills tends to exagerate way to much for me.

I'm partial to Survivorman. Much more realistic, IMHO.

All fun to watch, tho.
