.com etc shove over, the big ticket item of your own business or brand name is coming. If there is more than 1 applicant for the same name it goes to auction. City names like .melbourne etc might have some bidders as there is more than one city named Melbourne etc. You may see big brand names taken up like .canon or .myers etc. I wonder, at that price will there be domain name squatting? That's where people register popular domain names just to resell, imagine if you registered .apple or .microsoft .... perhaps you'd better have a good lawyer.
