I got a kawasaki 454 yesterday,it is out of time, cams look good,so does the timing chain.I was wondering where the ignition timing is or if you have a pdf or ipl that would be great as the wiring is a mess.Btw its an 86.

Let's see if l can remember how l timed my bike?

This a static time/no timeing light.

First step/
is check the points gap for correct gap and tollerance/for my bike they could be maximin of 4 thou differance/you usually work out what your bike likes and went with that.

Second step/
Whip out No 1 spark plug and bring up the front clylinder TDC

Third step/
Take out timing inspection plug and align it dead centre of the inspection hole.

Step four/
Losen off you point backing plate/still firm but you can lightly tap it for adjustment

Step five/
Advance you advance and retard unit until a cigarette paper could be pulled between the points with noticable drag.

Step six/
lock off points backing plate/recheck cigy paper in points for correct drag/this tricky sometimes.

Step seven/
Replace spark plug/timing cover plate/ and timimg inspection plug.

Start bike and enjoy.Ofcouse this applies to a Harley
