We have had a bit, first rain for almost 2 months now.

Our water tank is full again and so is the pool.

It started raining Sunday morning and finished this morning for now, they say more coming tomorrow.

It was light rain, over the 48 hours we got 33mm where I live which isn't a lot. They say we need 50mm around the dams to get run off.

Here's the state of play with the dams here, look at the end figures, also shows rain.

We are down to 16% water storage.

This drought has killed our industry with many others, however plasma screens sales are booming whilst no-one can afford to buy a house or rent one anymore. Just watch more TV, solves all your problems.

Here in NSW we got a months worth of rain in 24hours... I think it was 133ml's? Our dams are at just about 60% now and the idiot politicians are thinking of easing our restrictions so people can hose down their pathways again... Great government huh?

About 10.30am I left home. ute loaded and heading out to do a little job.

Got 1km down the road and it started pissing down, dropped a uturn and went home.

Intermittent flogging down showers, they reckon a storm will hit tonight, I hope it's a bad one and wrecks the whole joint, might get some work then at 2007 prices instead of 1987.

Getting hit right now, flogging down and strong wind ... not strong enough though!

Hey guys, check out the new wind feature on the BOM satellites. They reckon it's copyrighted but too bad, anyway their sat pics aren't static ... you have to take a screen shot not just link to the URL

Here's hoping you get a week of rain mate and avoid level 6 and worse!!

PS...we're moving our water from the Burdekin dam to each and every household here in NQ just in case things do get worse and you Southerners decide you want some of our water!!!

It's been raining all week, some pretty fierce winds, up to approx 80km/h where I live, no real tree damage however media reports the odd one down.

As I type we have had 95mm for the week in my guage here. It's mounted on a roof and not influenced by trees etc, very accurate.

The pool was nice and full so I got to backwash it for the first time in a while. For those who dont know what it means ... you reverse the water flow and pump it out to waste, cleans the filters some. The hardness is still off the end ... the only thing that reduces water hardness in a pool is fresh water. If your hardness is 1000ppm and you half empty the pool and fill it then it will go to 500ppm and when 200ppm is optimal you can see the problem ... mines past 1000ppm! I have no aluminium ladders or bits in the pool so scale build up is not happening for me however it does not do the liner etc any favours.

Hopefully some of the rain went in the dams.

108mm for us for the week. The sun finally came back today.

Sunshine Coast copped it bad, flooding and Friday night an average 300mm dumped in 24hours with a maximum recorded in the hinterland of 700mm.

However our catchment dams missed out again! So far our storage capacity has gone from 16% to 17% which is unbeliveable and shows the poor postioning of the dams in relation to where it rain a lot more. It has been years since I had a week off work due to rain, to see a weeks worth of steady rain do bugger all to the dams has pissed a lot of people off.

The largest dam, Wivenhoe, is out west a bit and seems to miss out a lot. However here's a pick of it flooding when they were trying to build it

Yesterday between 3pm and 5pm we got hammered.

I'll put some pics up soon however my rain guage recorded 145mm in that period.

I was running around with an umbrella and shovel trying to help water get away.

Had to pump the pool to as it was about to overflow, had the pump running for 1.5hours straight to waste to keep the pool level.

It was like a river down the side of the house, water came fromt he higher neighbours side over our retaining wall and down the side of our house.

I'll be building that wall higher now so he can flood his own yard ... and tree he's got there.

A fair bit of the rain lately has made it into the dams, the total for Brisbane is now up to 33% and for a long time wivenhoe dam which is the biggest has creeped up to 20% capacity, it was down around 13% from memory with fish dying!

SEQWater - Current Dam Levels

I think there'll be a little run off and over the next few days the levels might go up another percent or two.

Restrictions haven't been eased nor do I think they should, frankly using town water to water the garden is just nuts.

Plenty of rain here too...on Tuesday 171mm, Wednesday 26mm recorded at Albion Park Airport.

The ground is saturated and it's all run-off now ... local flash floods and road closures.

Populated West Dapto was completely cut-off on Tuesday... no-one could get to work.

The X'mas Bush farm at Jamberoo had 214mm on Tuesday.

...and it looks dark in the south-west...more coming later today.

Here's the waterfall, all the neibs water coming into our place.

Which washes out our gardens etc and goes out to the front for another waterfall.

Couple of shots of the street, they upgraded the drainage a few years back thank goodness.
