Tree people are an improvisational group. I thought it might be interesting to see how some of our minds work in what we invent or what we appreciate in other's inventions (fav inventions). Doesn't have to be tree related. This might also, if one is concerned about theft, seal ownership by picturing it on this thread/forum and having it dated. Anyone else like innovations? (no wheels please )

I am rather proud of this adaptation. I like sharp saws and a vice to do the sharpening. I had a vice bolted to the mudguard of the old chipper but when you park facing the traffic as you sometimes must, it meant I was standing too close to the traffic. Had a couple of close calls so....... This is the solution. ![]() ![]() The base is the standard jack stand that comes with the chipper. It's redundant as the chipper also has a hydro jack. I can simply unbolt the vice if I need the jack stand in an emergency. The vice is a $20 cheapie I picked up with a locking swivel base. Now I can work safely, between the truck and chipper. If I get hit by a car now it was simply meant to be. Or a well executed hit...... |

That is a cool vice set up "Outa". Is that a 12" bar on that 020? One of my inventions is to hang a double braid eye sling off the crane hook, usually 10 or 12 feet long, 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch dia and timber hitch or rbolen to the piece, sometimes with a marl, depending on the size of the piece, sometimes I use 2 for balance. Sometimes I butt hitch em and hang em, sometimes tip tie, and sometimes spread balanced or single balanced. What this does is eliminate the time to unhook from the ball hook and choke and then put back on the ball hook. The best part of it though is it keeps the head ache ball away from you head. Hence, no headaches. I have not seen anyone else do this, except buds I told about it, and no sub crane op has had anyone else but me using it with them that I have used.. |

| All my saws have the standard "out of the factory" bars on them. Which is my round about way of saying I dunno! I "think" its 12", but then I told my wife the same thing and she needed surgery to repair the hernia she got from laughing.....

Oh Treevet, Some picture please!!!! Could a guy use that amsteel rope and braid up some super sized whoopie/loopie slings. I hear that stuff is comparable to like size cable. The crane guy we have been using has kevlar slings, I checked out the prices on some long ones, man was I glad I was sitting down. LOL BTW, thanks for the sling ideas, as you know I just bought my first one. Marlene says it will be my LAST one too! The vice is a good idea too, Outofmytree, it beats kneeling on the ground at a stump or log, and hey you can adjust it for those taller climbers so the are standing straight up. I built a log arch and a home grown GRCS this summer, pics are on the other 'puter. It is amazing what can come out of a scrap iron pile. ![]() We had freezing rain last night, might be a good day to transfer data to this one. |

| Ain't a whole lot to show Brent. I could go down to my lot and take a pict of one of these hanging off my ball hook, then hang a piece of wood off it with a rbolen or t hitch but, hey it is my day off. ![]() A. 5/8 " double braid (green) 15k tensile 1500 dynamic b. 3/4 dbl brd (yellow) 19k tensile strength 1900 w load See our sponsor Sherrill above |

I was thinking about doing quotes in slacks and a tie.... but I didnt wanna come off as a "suit". Wasnt sure that the overall impression would end up being positive or not.

Way back in the day, before me if you can imagine that, they used to CLIMB with a tie. It was tucked in the front of their shirts and slacks were bloused in above high top boots.

The guys called me from a tricky climb once that neither of the 2 climbers on site thought they were capable of. I were out quoting, not in a tie, but business shirt, trousers & nice shoes. So i had to come by & finish it off for them. Looked pretty funny climbing dressed like that! |
