Politicians are afraid of the economic backlash if we hassle the Japs.

Have you seen the movie "The Cove"? If not it's a must (usually a DVD in Blockbuster etc .... ask for it) but do not let little kids watch it. See what the govt is covering up in Japan, even poisoning their own people.

Irony is that the ringleader resides in USA now although USA says no terrorists to live here ... but the culprit sells arms to USA.

Rainbow Warrior ringleader heads firm selling arms to US government | Environment | The Guardian
Why would the U.S. buy arms from this guy? We make most of what the rest of the world wants and we sell to them! The U.S. has stuff that is mind boggling.

The French intelligence officer who led the 1985 bombing of the Rainbow Warrior, the Greenpeace ship protesting against nuclear tests in the Pacific, now lives in America where he heads an arms firm selling weapons to the FBI, Pentagon, and the department of homeland security, the Guardian has learned.

The presence in America of Louis-Pierre Dillais and the sensitive nature of his dealings with the US government has led to calls from Greenpeace for his deportation.
Clearly the US doesn't have everything just like Iraq never had weapons of mass destruction!

So he works for FNH Herstal. They bought out Browning and Winchester, both U.S. arms manufacturers. A Belgian owned company........... FNH U.S. I've read one side of the story, but can't understand why the U.S. would harbor a known terrorist. This just doesn't pass the smell test. We've deported/extradited people over child pornography and/or rape charges from a foreign country. As far as weapons goes, it is still Winchester and Browning, U.S. companies who's parent company is Belgian.

It seems the anti whaling mob conviniently overlook the cultural reasons for the whale harvest.
They are all for land rights and cultural values in the back yard, but the rest of the world cannot ?
How would they feel if told they could no longer eat haggis?

I do not think they conveniently look over anything.

But I do think that to suggest this:-

Demonstrates how you think.

They are all eh, WOW, all of them. I am against whaling but do not support land rights and assess cultural values on case by case merit basis.

Aboriginals here agreed to no longer hunt dugongs for 5 years.

Now haggis is made from sheep, and sheep are farmed.

No problems Eric,
but you still have not addressed the cultural reasons for the whale harvest.
To pre-empt. the "scientific research" reason given by Japan; We all know this is a handy little loophole so dont bother.

Cultural reasons?

More like they haven't evolved reasons.

They eat whale meat, they also eat dolphin and maim their own people's with it's toxicity.

I'm not here to address their cultural issues, that's their problem but I certainly can have an opinion of them, they have a barbaric background.

I find the harvest of wild animals (who have lived a life free to roam as they please) far more humane and certainly less "barbaric" than the battery farmed meat we consume by the millions.
Each to their own though.
