KFC denies liability for girl's quadriplegia

Fast food chain KFC has rejected suggestions its food is responsible for leaving an 11-year-old girl in a wheelchair.

Monika Samaan is suing the chain for more than $10 million, saying she nearly died after getting salmonella poisoning from a chicken wrap she bought from KFC.

The girl, who has acquired spastic quadriplegia and a profound intellectual disability, arrived at the New South Wales Supreme Court today in her wheelchair.

The court heard her condition was due to salmonella poisoning from a contaminated KFC product called a Twister.

She ordered the product from the Villawood outlet in Sydney's south west in October 2005.

The next day she was vomiting and had diarrhoea. Her parents and brother were also sick after sharing her Twister.

The family's lawyer, Anthony Bartley, SC, told the court that Monika had been an extremely bright and active young girl before her illness.

KFC is accused of breaching its duty of care and the Trade Practices Act.

The court heard a company review conducted last week gave the Villawood outlet a performance ranking of 41 per cent, which is regarded as a breakdown standard.

KFC has issued a statement saying the company is sympathetic to the girl's plight, but that it is not responsible.

Just some strange things happened over at racesaws.
Most all the boys there had been banned at AS and so there were always a few good bagging sessions and lo and behold, there'd be extra bannings at AS soon after.

It got fairly petty for a bit.

They banned everyone off and are left with the shit no-one wants!

To create bandwidth they have religion and politics, as if they'd know anything about either.
