It's an institution here, damn long race and is the V8 Supercars show piece. Speed and endurance.

The cars are made in Australia, rivals Ford and Holden. They're very fast and competitive, very close in performance and handling these days.

I was a Ford guy back in the 70's to mid 80's then shifted to Holden because Ford's sucked and their engineering was crap. Holden dominated up till the last couple of years when Ford lifted it's game and re-engineered their cars, they realised winning at the races resulted in more sales.

You've never driven a real car unless you've driven a GTHO Falcon & Bathurst is the track. I've been around it a few times, the S's are, [you've got to be there] This is the oldies race, 3rd lap

There's a drive day with Jim Richards coming up : DRIVE BATHURST | SPRINT BATHURST | MT PANORAMA | JIM RICHARDS

Can't say i've done bathurst (yet!) and i don't discount what you're saying, but i reckon add to that driving a turbo 4wd rally car through some of the classic Rally of Melbourne stages like Blowhard, Acheron & Mt.Slide...Then you are really driving!

Would have been a 253

As for holden & ford, i reckon they're both pretty crap and i've owned several of each.

There are better cars out there but some folk can't see past either one of these two. They aren't the only cars on earth. I'll take my Subaru over either any day.

It's about more then better cars, it's about jobs and an Australian industry.

The local manufacturers put aussie bums in aussie seats, cars that are built here that cater for most Australians.

Hence the utes, panel wagons of yesterday, and the old days of being able to buy parts everywhere you went without a mortgage or 6 weeks wait.

There's a lot more to this than which car is better, if the Aussie auto industry collapses then there's a whole shit load of people who wont be paying for tree work.

Live local, buy local, and if it's not good enough then tell them so and help build something that employs Aussies not asians abroad.

The industry stands on it's own two feet relatively well considering the imports that are dumped here.

There should be a little flame in all Australians to preserve our car industry.
