Default Ford Falcon that got away.

I would like to share a story of a muscle car I owned when I was a teenager, and I know this car was very popular in Australia.
My baby was a 2 door 1970 1/2 Ford Fairlane Falcon. It had a 351 Cleveland,4bbl and 4 speed Hurst stick with a bench seat. Now this year 1970 1/2 was the last year the Falcon was built in North America and just a while back an old car friend of mine told me if I still had that car today it would be worth alot of money because of its rarity and being the last year Falcon. In 1970-71 Ford built an almost identical car called the Torino GT with engines up to the 429 Cobra Jet.

Sounds like she was quite the beast!

Old Falcons especially GT's are worth good $$$ now.

I think i know the 2 door your talking about. I don't think we actually got the here locally, but have seen a few canadian imports around.

Things have changed here with car values.

Say 10-15 years ago, old US cars like mustangs camaros etc were quite expensive.

Now genuine local muscle cars are worth much more than the US cars.

From my research my 1970 1/2 Falcon was the last Falcon produced in North America, only 26,000 two doors were made.Only 90 were built with the 429c.i. Cobra Jet powerplant. Ford then shipped the Falcon's body panel tooling to Australia and from then on Australia designed and built its own Falcons. The first model was the 1972 Falcon XA. The yellow Falcon in Mel Gibsons "Mad Max" movie was a '72 XA.
I no longer have pictures of my Falcon from my glory days,[they did not survive my 1st wife and divorce] he,he,he, but here I have a picture of a red 1970 1/2 Fairlane Falcon and a white Australian 1972 XA GT Falcon.

There may be a few collectors in Australia or New Zealand who may want some of those Falcon 429 parts . Australia Ford never produced a 429 Falcon. Only 90 were produced in North America. There was 12 1970 1/2 Falcons produced in North America that had the factory "drag pack" options. A 429 Super Cobra Jet engine with solid lifter cam, ram air ,430 rear gears etc. Very rare car and probably also not for sale if there is one still around.

We have had Falcons since about 1960 i think.
The XK, XL, XM, XP were early to late 60s.
The XR, XT, XW, XY were late 60s to 71 i think.
Then the XA, XB, XC were the next shape which ran up to about 77.

The GT ran from the XR - XC and are highly sought after now.

Yeah, a lot more money around then.

We had a "Ford or Holden" thread once before, remember. YouTube - Yager Performance, XY-GTHO, Bathurst 08

I've driven one, never could afford one though. Still got my XD ute, 351, bit of work, comes close.

The ol XD is still pretty cool, my brother had a sedan with 351 manual, it went well.

XC utes with factory 351's are worth a few bucks now, $10-$15K for a good one.

Ive still got a HQ 1 tonna 308...I never drive it though

Too frustrating around here, never get a chance to get going

Traffic lights seem to grow overnight.

This was my ute till late last year, 1977 XC Falcon. It became more of a hobby than a means of transport in the end, and I got rid of it so I wasn't wasting so much time and money on something that was going to become too precious to use as work vehicle

I've had an XW, XA, XC and EA in my time.

Now I got a Mazda Bravo, is that a Ford Courier, who makes that anyway ... Ford or Mazda?

I once owned a 1978 Ford Courier truck[Mazda]. With a 2.3 ? litre 4 cylinder with 5 speed . Toughest little truck I ever owned and got great fuel economy. I would still be driving it as a 2nd or 3rd vehicle today but the body rusted out too bad.
