Default External hard drive. 1st use tonight

Tried my external hard drive for the first time tonight. Worked quite nice.

I settled on a modest 160 gig drive under a $100 US dollars.

Mainly wanted to backup my videos, images and website. And I can use the laptop with it too.

All that was 23 gigs - my collection of the last 4 years. More than plenty of space left.

Took about 35 to 40 minutes to transfer the 23 gigabytes over the USB connection - reasonable.

I still have a few slots inside my box for drives.

My 160gig drive is at 80% after 18months

My 80gig C drive is 85% free as only runs the PC (programs etc)

I would like a 250 gig or even 500 gig slotted in. Video out of the camera is what 200mb a minute ... yeah, a 60 minute tape can hog 12gig, and that aint HD VCR!

I have two hard drives in my case with room for 3 more.

But the exernal drive can be easily unhooked and put in my fireproof safe.

My video collection and images will be significant enough in a few years, that I'm going to keep an external drive at a safe deposit box too.

Especially once I start my pruning DVD project.

I may burn a few DVDs with backup stuff too.
