Yes, it is tree related! When the snow melts, a lot of things will appear. I found a lot of elk poo in the wood to-day. Some people use it for making souvenirs and ear clips (!). To preserve it, they use natrium silicate (Na2SiO3). I have even heard that it is possible to make paper of this stuff. I have not been able to find any verification about this, but I think it may be possible. I know for sure that elephant poo is used for paper. During the winter elks eat mostly branches and bark. What comes out in the opposite end is cellulose, wood pulp.Perhaps we should make a try? ![]() ![]() Leif. |

| Yes, sure! But what about those people making elephant poo paper. Search the web, and you'll find it. It's an organisation caring for elderly elphants(!). They get some income from selling poo paper. ![]() Leif. |

Your spot on with the Elephant poo Leif, but they crap bucket fulls and it looks like you need a hell of a lot of extra stuff even after you are knee deep in 'it! ![]()

I am impressed. It's nearly an industry, far more serious than I could imagine. I see I may have insulted hard working paper producers. I think I'll have to introduce elk poo in our paper production at school! The cleaning process is perhaps a bit easier than with elephant dropping? ![]() Leif. |

Hey LeifR, Is your elk what we call "moose" here in Canada? I gave up beef years ago and now only eat elk for red meat. But from visiting my relatives in Norway [Hegra,Flornes] a few years back I believe your elk are what we Canadians call moose. I'd post a picture of our elk and moose if I can find one. |

Yes, elk and moose is mainly the same animal, but moose is bigger. My woodlot is very small, so I can't shoot one for myself. But every 3rd year I get a plastic bag with meat from the hunters. It tastes very good. Leif. Last edited by Jeff Darby; 30th April 2009 at 10:06 AM. Reason: typo |

Earrings? hmm... i guess as long as you don't turn your head quick you won't smell them. Polish them up nice and shiney and get Polished Turd earings! Better than gemstones! I'm thinking these will be a big seller on Norwegian Infomercials.

The idea came up before the olympics at Lillehammer in 1994, and I think somebody made some money on it. Treated with natrium silicate they didn't smell anything at all. People sold small glasses with preparated poo too, as souvenirs. Leif. |

Found this: Poo Paper! There are a number of small manufactures of 'poo' paper throughout the world. In Tasmania you can currently buy paper made from Kangaroo poo. Approximately 25kg of kangaroo manure makes 400 sheets of paper, which is becoming a souveneer of choice for tourists. In Scandinavia, elk poo paper is the stationery of choice in most offices, and elephant poo paper, manufactured from 75% post consumer waste and 25% elephant dung is collected by the elephant handlers in Sri Lanka and provides an extra source of income for the locals to care for the elephants. "Ellie Poo" paper is available from the Green Stationery Co in the UK.
