The car is a Manxter. Custom built by Mendeola Motors in San Diego. It's a fiberglass custom that is on a 74 Beetle pan. The engine is a 1914cc, fuel injected, with a 110 Engle cam.

If you want to see the thread on the build, go here...

Ekka, that's why I'm heading back to Florida! The lack of vegetation and humidity are making me crazy!

NG let me know. I sent back a PM. My schedule puts me in north florida Sunday night or Monday AM... most likely I'll grab a hotel somewhere up there. So let me know what ya think.

Update.....

I reached San Antonio and the car was running rough. Wound up finding a burnt plug wire on #4. Replaced it and it still ran rough. Got Dyno'd there on Saturday at Murillo Motor Sports. Jason tuned it nicely.

After leaving San Antonio I headed to Freeport TX, to visit friends. Nice drive down to the beach south of Houston.

I left Freeport this AM and got to I-10. Within 20 miles of being on I-10 I hit a pretty large construction bump and felt my teeth click in the back of my head. After this I could feel Metal on metal every time I hit a larger seam in the road. I pulled off to a gas station and found that I had blown BOTH rubber bumpers out. I checked around and called some VW friends and found a great guy named Henry Menager of Menager's Paint and Autobody...
AKA bugaholics.com he has lots of stuff for sale here on The Samba too, god I love the VW community!

Henry got me hooked up with 2 new bumpers and some coil over shocks since I-10 actually gets worse the closer to Louisiana you get. So now its a bit jacked up in the back... like the real Speedbuggy!

Tho I think larger back tires are in order now.

Back to our Story... On the test drive I asked Henry about a squeek I had been hearing in the back. Long story short he found a wobble in the fan/alternator shaft, not sure which yet but in the AM he is going to pull the shroud off and check it all out. And since it hasn't been done, seat the valves while things are apart. I just passed the 2000 mile mark and it's about time.

I'll be heading through Louisiana tomorrow, not sure where I'll stop so any who PM'd me I'll try to drop a line tomorrow once I actually get on the road.

Anyway, thanks for all the well wishes, and thanks to Bugaholic. Great guy and great shop!

S.P.

Heya, yea the repairs are covered, thank god. As with any custom the possibility of breakdown goes up, especially when taking a newly built car cross country with only 12 test miles on it.

NewGuy sorry I wasn't able to stop and meet ya. By the time I hit north Florida I was about to go into a coma I was so tired. I'll be in N Florida for a show in Tallahassee sometime next year which you are welcome to come to. If you wanna see the Bull Ridins.
