I'd have to sit down and figure it out but a us gallon is 3.9 litres.I heard from my dad a friend of his while he was in high school 20 years ago had done some work to a tranny on his car no engine work and back then was doing 60 mpg.We weren't sure what he did but ford bought the design from him and he gets a brand new vehicle from the every year to not release the info. They could make vehicles more gas efficent but the won't if it was possible back then to achieve 60mpg then whats possible today?[no kidding 60mpg].

| Again, why do they rip off diesel, that's a significant jump in price?

Arborjockey, I don't know when you were last in Arizona, but when I was there a couple months ago it was still 3.45 per gallon. Prices in Cali have come down by now... and if you go to the cheaper places, they are near 3.20 per gallon. |

In California the State has been pushing their people to run more fuel efficient cars and conserve as much fuel as possible. Drive those little doll cars and stay home if you don't need to drive, it's working, fuel consumption is down. However, since fewer gallons of fuel are being sold, less tax revenue is being collected. So now the State is looking at RAISING the fuel tax which is already almost $1.00 a gallon to make up the unforeseen shortfall. By the way, why does diesel cost more even though it requires less processing than regular gas? |

Because diesel used to be much cheaper than petrol, more prople brought diesel cars and as all vans are diesel, the goverment made diesel dearer than petrol just to make more money in tax !

we have road user charges here on diesel so the government make it 'cheaper' it still costs me $450 for 10,000 km but diesel is still 1.37 a litre with 91 octane at 1.77 a litre and premium at 1.93 a litre.

Diesel in the Milwaukee area just hit $4.13 per gallon. I read an interesting article that broke down the cost of a gallon of gasoline when it cost $3 per gallon. There was a profit of $1 per gallon, the rest was for refining, shipping, marketing etc. Corporate greed. What would happen if people started burning down gas stations in protest of this greed? Take away the ability to market your product. Right now the US has the largest petroleum reserves it has had in the past 15 years, so why the high prices?
