The saying "behind the 8 ball" is generaly used as meaning,
Not going that well.
Behind Schedule.
Lagging behind.

If im playing pool and im "behind the 8 ball" then i only have one more ball to sink to win! Thats a good thing isn't it

So behind the 8 ball should mean "almost finished"

Not from the rules when I play, it means you're snookered. Cant get a clean shot at your ball coz the 8's blocking you, you could have 7 on the table or 1, doesn't mattered.

In the context of of the saying "we're behind the 8 ball" I take it as banked up or obstacles in front.

Behind the 8 ball refers to the situation where you are snookered and house rules award a default victory to your opponent if you contact the 8 ball.

Hence you are under pressure and in a world of trouble!

You dont lose the game if you hit the black, just lose 2 shots. But if you hit it and pot it then you lose the game.

Well, that's how I play. I know there's some who have 1 shot rules, and crikey, I reckon some bars got no rules.
