Do you barter for tree work?

Source:KXLY.com: News, Weather and Sports for Spokane, WA and Coeur d'Alene, ID | More turning to lost art of bartering
Quote:
Derek Babcock barter's too, he's a bartering Arborist.

"I'm just looking for other little ways to generate business," said Babcock.

Derek diagnoses and treats dying trees, he's bartered his services for a television and even a boat.

"A lot of people are doing it," he said.

A quick look on craigslist.com shows pages of people willing to barter just about anything for just about anything.

The trick is to write down what you need then what you have that you'd be willing to give up.

"You clean my house, I'll do your trees," explained Babcock.

When doing my training I would take nearly anything that was available, I could only take cash or else be caught out by the student loan scheme and have to pay back ludicrous amounts of hard earned cash.got numerous bits and bobs. only worth doing when you feel like you got the better deal.

I did a pine dismantle in trade for the trailer I spent the last year living in.

Other small stuff here and there. I dont do it very often but I have done it in the past. I'm not opposed to it. Sometimes they don't have any cash, but they've got something I'd really like to have. If the job only takes an hour or a couple hours or something there's no reason not to do it if I dont have any paying jobs lined up.

Bill, I think lopa and you aren't quite on the same level with the sweeter deal. Lopa's angle makes me think of that song by Def Leppard, "Pour some sugar on me"

Bartercard:- a cashless exchange goods and services system.

Not long ago the members got tax audits, most failed to declare their Barter dollars for both GST and income tax.

They often ring me and I ask, can I use it at Coles or Woolworths? Nope.

From Bartercard's website about how it works:

Quote:
A restaurant wishes to "barter" for $10,000 worth of printing using meals and drinks. No printer would ever want $10,000 in meals from the one restaurant, however by selecting a Bartercard printer, the restaurateur pays the printer with T$10,000 Trade Dollars. The printer’s account is "credited" and the restaurateur’s account "debited", so the restaurant now owes T$10,000 in meals to the Bartercard network, NOT the printer. This is repaid as various Bartercard members come to the restaurant (new business) over the following months. Hence, the restaurant has paid for its printing requirements with meals, using an interest-free "line of credit" and at a cost of approximately 30 - 40 cents in the dollar, in replacement good cost.
Sounds good on the surface but, the GST has to be paid so does the tax with CASH not barter dollars.

Also notice the spin on the 30 - 40 cents thing, how they come to that conclusion? I'd think most would bump the price up considering it's not cash and so trace-able ... maybe that's why since 1991 they have only around 25,000 Aussies in it.

Also imagine all those people going to your restaurant and not parting with cash, meanwhile you have to pay the rent, staff, super, tax, butcher etc with real cash dollars.

Be aware, that's all. CASH IS KING.

I pay a mate that helps me out sometimes with wood for his fire, works out for both of us, He helps me for half a day and gets what ever big stuff that he can use for heating his home.

I absolutely got her through something cheesey! It had nothing to do with tree work though. We were married long before I pruned her parent's trees.

It's pretty amazing how many girls will fall for the old "My friends all tell me my nose smells like pineapple. You should smell it and tell me what you think." line.
