| I love the shot of the guy with the helmet on, and his little kid holding on behind him with no helmet. That video made me remember one of the STUPIDEST things I've EVER done in my life (not to mention not using autolocking carabiners for safety clip-ins).. I lane-split between two semi-trucks on the 5 freeway about 80 miles south of Sacramento (in California). Saw them open a gap and went for it... punched it at about 120mph... slid right in between the two and was fighting the vortex coming off of both of them, managed to keep it up and shot out between the front of them going 150mph. Stupidest freaking thing I've ever done... I was sweating for a good 20 mins afterwards going WTF did I do that for??????

Last fall I was coming out of a rural into a town and just slowed to about 60 from about 85 and a deer was right in front of me (it was real dark out). I hit the brake and nothing was happening. The only thing I could think of was to grip the bars real tight and stick my knees into it. I know it sounds hard to believe but it worked and he went right over the bike. Went into a shimmy and it tore the lights of shut them off and tore the ignit off and shut eng off. I stayed up for some reason but , again, what a rush. Cost me about 2500 repair and I felt real lucky. I ride an 05 Triumph 1050 Speed Triple. Like was asked what you riding Therrin? | |

| Back then had a Yamaha vision 550, shaft drive, '82. Had it pretty modded. Took the stock double pipes and ran em into a modern yoshi exhaust. Modded air intake, bored out and modded carbs, lowered bars, dropped a bit of weight off of it. Modded suspension. It was a good bike. Something screwy with the electrical system though. Ended up having to trouble shoot stuff every week or so. That and kept going through starters. It was a crappy design, the oilpan/starter seal kept blowing and flooding the starter with oil. It was stock when I got it but by the time I sold it to my mechanic, who was turning into a "vintage 500 series race bike", I'd been through the entire thing stem to stern. Was fun to wrench on, even more so to ride. I know what ya mean about twisty roads. You get that zen thing going on between you and the bike, everything else fades away and you're just one... it's so exhilarating. Used to love it. After my accident my bike was fine but I was pretty jacked up. Went down inside a corner, sand across the road, I was tucked in pretty tight, had some new tires with sticky compound. Taking a 25mph corner at about 65...done it several times before, leaning way down, keepin my knees tucked in tight. That day there was sand... didn't see it till I was down and sliding I mentioned this in another thread before... got strapped to a paramedic's backboard, lying there for about 2 hrs on the side of the road cuz my ambulance got lost. Had a hole in my knee big enough you could stick your thumb in and touch the *underside* of my patella. (knee bone)Gonna buy a Moto Guzzi 1200 "California" edition from my current Landlord. I'll post pics later. It's more of a cruiser. More relaxed riding, not pushing the edge so close anymore.

| It s a great way to blow off some steam, or just lay back and sight see. I run a lot of estimates that I wouldn t do if not including a bike ride after work. Guess there s some tax write off there? Anyone else ride? |

| Weekend Road Warriors... there's some biker bars in the mountains up here. I was thinkin about taking a ride on that Guzzi out to the East coast and back maybe this coming summer. Newguy.... you need rope first. ![]() And if you get a bike, start out with one that won't break 100mph first. Something nice and light. A little 250 or something would be great. Most people around here make the mistake of getting something too big and too fast to try to learn on and half the time it kills them.

| Yes I have a bike too. Not a heavy one, just a Yamaha XT125 X . I bought it because it doesn't run fast and you can drive it with a car drivers license. It does run 60 MPH though. |
