Maybe Canada needs to learn a few things.

It's was not a roll of the dice that made me get my USA citizenship about 20 years ago - I was born in Canada.

Great place to visit, but maybe not the most intelligent culture in existence.

You know why they don't want that ad? Here's what I think...

It makes Australia look like a much more fun place to go for a vacation !!

And Canada can hardly survive without tourism money - it's in a pinch as it is.

Maybe the fact that the ad was banned, shows that Canada itself, has given an unintentional stamp of approval that Australia's ad looks like it offers a better time.

It was banned because she goes "so where the bloody hell are you?"

And the puritans along with religious nutters got on their high horses and banned it.

So a great debate broke out here about political correctness and had the ad not had that in it, it would have been aired and not a waste of money.

On the flip side the argument was that are we to be something we aint to satisfy Canadians when the rest of the world didn't care ... so that was the consensus and Canada was put into a "square" box.

Slang is etched into aussie vocabulary, the Toyata "bugger" ads took off, the cricket ads slam the "poms" and so on.

I just hope we stay that way and I wont have to start editing the hell out of this board to suit political correctness.

That would be a bugger.

That?s typical; it would be funny if it weren?t true. Politicians are even getting involved here with who will be Canada?s team captain in hockey because the guy who was chosen, apparently once said something about French Canadians.

I won't say anything. I had a great post planned; it had the words "civil war" and "referendum" among others, but that wouldn't be polite.

Well ok, but Streyken can give the whole Canadian-Quebec story he lives there, here's my version....there's a portion(don't know the %) of the people in Quebec, province of Canada who push for autonomy from the English speaking majority of Canada, to be a French speaking self governing province. Very simplified..they don't much like the Canadian English speakers, nor the American English speakers, and vica versa , whats funny is that the French in France have not one good thing to say about the French speaking Canadians in Quebec, they even have special unpleasant French words to describe them and their version of French proper.(The French are up themselves big time about most things but especially things Frenchy)

So I find myself in Brittany in 81' I think, cycling around and hook up with this group of friendly Canuks, hang out and travel around together. I'm 16/17yrs old and loving all the beer/wine and young Canadian women when we hit St Malo (Famous Frenchy port town) here the French people we meet are well less than friendly but the Canuks just laugh it all off and keep on partying
I had a lot of fun with those guys and girls they could really party, no matter what language they used

That's bout it Boa. Quebec wanted to be self governing (basically their own country), but still wanted to use the Canadian dollar, trade partners, etc., ya right. This was the second referendum on this issue and fraction over half of the Quebecers thought this wasn't a good idea and Quebec's independence didn't happen for a second time.

Needless to say, there are a few ill feeling between Bloc Qu?b?cois and the rest of Canada. At times the Bloc Qu?b?cois will have the Fleurdelis? raised, but not the Canadian flag. They're a national party, but run in Quebec. Confused? Me too.

Is there a remote chance that you have seen a Geico Insurance Ad?

I'm not sure if they are just a USA insurance company, but they have two main ads running.

One is a caveman ad "so simple a Caveman can do it" with various versions of cavemen in modern apparel becoming offended in the ads.

The other is the green Computer animated Gecko which talks with an Australian accent. The vocabulary is very sterile and "correct" - more accent than culture.

I really enjoyed that ad link you posted like getting the "roos" off the green. May be the best travel ad I've ever seen.

I'm on board with that censorship. Can't say I would appreciate my daughter piping up in Sunday school with the same.

Not that the various forms/levels of vulgarity are evil, I simply believe that that vulgarity indicates and inability to effectively convey your vocabulary/message.
