A 60-year-old Townsville teacher-aide has been charged after allegedly trying to import child pornography into the country.

Police said a joint police and customs operation led to the arrest of the man this month after customs allegedly found him importing child exploitation material in the form of commercially produced DVDs.

The man, who cannot be named, is listed on court documents as being a teacher-aide and computer technician.

His Townsville home and car have been raided and more than 50 computer hard drives, hundreds of DVDs and other items were seized.

Officers are currently searching through the material and investigating whether the man has had contact with children in his neighbourhood, a police spokesman said.

Premier Anna Bligh told reporters that all parents and children connected with the man's school would be given advice and offered counselling.

"I want to reassure the parents in the Townsville area who attended this school there will be advice and counselling for them," she said.

The man has been charged with three counts of possession of child exploitation material and one count of produce child exploitation material.

He is also charged with a number of export-related offences.

The man has been remanded in custody and will next appear at Townsville Magistrates Court on October 17.

He faces up to ten years imprisonment and a maximum $110,000 fine.

Perhaps he did just lying about it.

No other forum owner actually took such interest in child pics and encouraged people loading them up either.
