Well, my friend Sueann spent her time and money to bake me up some ANZAC biscuits (we call them cookies here in the states) and send them stateside. As my friend from London would say with a pommy English accent: "These are dead good, love!" ![]() Now all I need is a photo of my sweet Aussie friend to put on the desk here whilst I defend my new national homeland down under recently won over by my stomach from the evils of American aggression and tyranny. Maybe I can open a chain of cookie stores across America selling these things? Aussie Aussie Aussie! Oi Oi Oi! |

| Lol Ekka! my anzac cookies are ok, everyone likes them here anyway and no-one has died yet. I guess there's always a first time though. ![]() Do you like the little Aussie flag stickers I put on the container? haha! I saw them at the post office and thought they were cute as. ![]() I was ridiculously happy they got there as I didn't think they would. America just seems a long way off and I've never sent anything over the oceans before. |

According to tradition, these biscuits were originally made for sending overseas. Don't know how true that is. I found an interesting thing in the wikipedia article on legal issues concerning the name of ANZAC biscuits. Do they sell any similar biscuit in the US windthrown? |

I had my neighbor's cat scan them before I ate them. The Aussie flag stickers are great. I have never seen the Southern Cross in real life myself. I suppose its like the little dipper and the North Star here? America cannot be that far off, can it? You are just the other side of the 'Pacific Pond' from us here. Biscuits here are unsweetened flakey flour and dough things that they sell at KFC. We call sweetened buscuits "cookies" here. They are like oatmeal cookies, but something in them is different. They do not sell ANZAC cookies here in the states that I am aware of. A lady friend of mine that makes lots of cookies in California says that she has made them and that ANZAC cookies were originally made the way that they are so that they would travel well to Aussie and Kiwi troops stationed around the world. Here is the history according to Wikipedia: There are a number of theories surrounding the true origins of Anzac biscuits, but what is certain is that they came about during WWI, around 1914–15.[citation needed] While some believe the biscuits were first made by the troops in the trenches with provisions they had at hand to relieve the boredom of their battle rations, the most widely accepted belief is that the biscuits were created by Australian and New Zealand women endeavouring to create a treat for their loved ones that would survive the long journey to the front. It has also been suggested that the biscuit is a variation of Scottish oat cakes[citation needed], resulting from the Scottish influence in the city of Dunedin, New Zealand.[3] In a speech to the East Otago Federation of Women’s Institutes, Professor Helen Leach, of the Archaeology Department of the University of Otago in New Zealand, stated that the first published use of the name Anzac in a recipe was in an advertisement in the 7th edition of St Andrew's Cookery Book (Dunedin, 1915) – but it was for a cake, not a biscuit, and there were no mixing instructions. A recipe for "Anzac Biscuits" appeared in the War Chest Cookery Book (Sydney, 1917) but was for a different biscuit altogether; the same publication included a prototype of today's Anzac biscuit, but called Rolled Oats Biscuits. The combination of the name Anzac and the recipe now associated with it first appeared in the 9th edition of St Andrew's Cookery Book (Dunedin, 1921) under the name "Anzac Crispies"; subsequent editions renamed this to "Anzac Biscuits" and Australian cookery books followed suit. Professor Leach later qualified her remarks by saying that further research might reveal earlier references to the name and recipe in either Australia or New Zealand.[4] This is like unwravelling the origins of King Arthur or Robin Hood. I see on TV that Robin Hood was a Kiwi-Aussie now... Russell Crowe? 30 Odd Foot of Merry Men? |

The thing that probably makes ANZAC biscuits different to Oatmeal cookies is the dessicated coconut. Glad you're enjoying one of our national treats.

Naw, they probably have the Bikkie Monster in Oz! I was not at the commune in the 70's. I drove by/near there dozens of times driving up and down I-5 in the early 1970s, but I was never on the Mu farm then. I wish now I had driven out there then, but I had no awareness that Mu Farm even existed. By the time I lived there it was a commune of ghosts! |

That poor sod was crying his eyes out in my brother's office before he quit. You broke his heart. And his wallet! ................................................... But on a more serious note, ................................................... So Sueann, if I send you $10k USD, you will dump your husband and fly out here to live with me here on Mt Hood, right? ![]() I will show you the snow and teach you how to ski. We will open a chain of ANZAC bikkie shops and build a fancy estate overlooking the Columbia River Gorge. There are lots of horse ranches out that way. I will build you a dressage training and show facility, and you can have all the horses that you want. ![]() Oh, and I would not require that you wear a burqa. Ever. You would be free!

Now all I need is my Aussie lass to complete my Aussie theme. I can dream the Aussie dream of my ravishing equitine Aussie babe galloping along the Australian green grass. We are flying over Ayers Rock in a hang glider as we hear the sounds of the didge playing in the background. We are in Adeline at my cousin's Mexican restaurant eating and laughing and drinking lots of beer and wine overlooking the ocean there. We are scuba diving off the coast of... wait a minute, she is deadly afraid of sharks, this Sheila. So skip the ocean scene... So instead we are at the beach at Surfer's Paradise and I am looking at all the white pointers there (white pointers translates to boobs here in the states, they have topless beaches there). Yes, I have gone mentally walkabout down under see?
