Thanks for the video Leif. My wife and I travelled those same fjords back in July 2002. We took the Flam trip from Oslo to Bergen , then the fjord trips up to Trondheim. My Grandmother came from Andalsnes. My Grandfather came from Hegra-Flornes [east of Trondheim]. The railway that goes direct all the way to Stockholm, Swedan is about 2 meters from my Grandfather's house.
Very beautiful country and of course the people.

Willard.

You would need that much palm tree firewood to equal the BTU output of a little pile of northern European firewood.

Our winter here in central Canada is just starting too. We had minus -6 C here this morning with a little snow. A nice change from the plus+35 C we had a few months ago.
I wouldn't call Norway cold. They have stable warm-cool weather. I was there in July once and it was a nice +20-+25C. Winters in most of Norway is mild [Minus -20 C the very coldest]compared to most parts of Canada where we have gotten down to minus-60C. The snot from your nose turns to ice before it hits the ground. Now that is damn cold, haha.

Your a very lucky man Leif! Most men dream of having a wife or girlfriend who can do what your woman does, and I'm one of them. The only suit my wife wears is a business suit.
Is that Helly Hansen clothing she is wearing? Here in Canada Norwegian Helly Hansen outdoor clothing is the best quality we can buy.

Thanks, everybody.
Kristin is my daughter. Yesterday when the photo was made, we were pressing aronia juice. It was a cool, nice day, but she was a bit freezy, perhaps she's going to catch a cold. She borrowed a winter suit for that occasion. I don't know if it is Helly-Hansen clothes, but they are good, for sure.
Normal winter temp here is between -5 and -20 degrees C, but it happens to be lower. Where I live, we have had below -30C. Near the Sweedish border and inner parts of North-Norway (far away from the sea), there may be temperatures like those in Canada. Summer temps may be more than 30C. Then I prefere some shadow.

Hi LeifR.
In the winter, does it pretty much stay cold, in those temps that you mentioned, or does the temps fluctuate from the -'s to the +'s, and have a lot of rain?
Over here (at least in Ontario) the weather constantly changes. Turns cold one week, with snow, and the next week it is mild, with rain, and changes back and forth, throughout the winter. Thanks. Bruce.

Hi, Bruce.
Normally, the weather doesn't change all the time, but we have periods with milder weather and sometimes rain. But there is a great difference between coast and inland climate.
Now everyone is talking about weather change and mild winters, and we have had a few of them earlier. But the last 4-5 winters have been more like the old ones.
Here in the inland the night frost starts in October, now we have already had several nights with 2-3 -C. In November it becomes colder, perhaps with a period with -20C or lower. I can remember novemberfrost close to -30C let us say 20-25 years ago. The snow comes sometimes in November, but more often it starts in December. A few days before Christmas the weather often changes to + temp and rain or wet snow. It happens one year after the other, so this period has got a special name: "Kakelinna". Kake = cake or cookie, linna = something wet, soft, floating. Thus, wet weather when we are making Christmas cookies!
Between Chr.mas and New Year, we often get cold weather again, sometimes very cold. These regular changes are supposed to be caused by the moon, to some extent.
Normal temp in January and February is -15 or lower, interrupted by periods with snow. Last January the snow fell nearly continously one whole week. I had time for nothig more than job, eat, sleep and remove snow.

In March the days become longer, the sun shines brightly, and the bees come out wondering if the summer will be there soon. Though there may still be up to one meter snow in the fields.
That was the forecast for the Norwegian winter weather!
Of course we have variations, but this is broadly spoken a pattern we often can se from year to year.

For those that might have an hour free from other duties these Christmas days, I have been looking for another video. Finally I chose this one about classic wooden boats exploring the coast of western Norway. The "star" is the 100 years old yacht that belonged to Christian Michelsen, prime minister i Norway in 1905 when we left the union with Sweden.
We also visit the annual boat show in London. There is some English speaking, but mostly it is Norwegian. But I hope you'll enjoy the journey along the coast.

Let's try a new one. Perhaps someone might have some minutes free during the Easter days. There are two parts of this story, I'll recommend the second one. If you like it, you'll find the first one and a some others at the same place.
One of them is the "snow cave man". Only a trailer is shown here. He has been living in snow caves for 30 years. (!)

Best wishes for Easter,

Stunning country Leif. But I think a little too cold for me. I can't even imagine that sort of cold. I guess you would get used to it if you live there though.

Yes, most of us get used to it, or perhaps we love it a bit too. Winter time gives wonderful photo or video motives. There are some winter shots in my Youtube channel.
But some people fly to Spain or another warm place during the winter.
