Galbee,

Next week I am working at a place that has a most bizaar burl/gall infected tree on the footpath.

I think there's a difference between burls and large galls which look like burls. Just a hunch as the symptoms vary.

Cool iv'e got a tree with galls coming down in 10 days im going to keep some and cut them up see what the layout inside is like, take a few pictures and we can compare notes on the make up
