Location Central Texas Planted 18 months ago I noticed one lower limb has turned ash colored (twig and leaves) and died, the area around it has leaves that do not look healthy. This tree has had no problems until I saw this 2 weeks ago and has been well watered. |

Two separate problems. First picture shows simple caterpillar damage. They have appeared late on the scent this year due to the cold winter. As small caterpillars, they are simply rasping off part of the leaf surface. They normally appear when the trees are leafing out and chew on the more succulent tender new vegetation. The second picture simply shows a limb dying - perhaps cracked or broken. Can't tell from the picture. |
