G day every one, Ive got a real bugger of a queen palm to take down at the moment and it would not worry me usly too much but if you look at the pictures the palm is over 60 foot tall, within 4 meters of HV cables, 1 foot short of the power lines in to the proprty, has over a lean of 1 meter and there is a lot of roots showing at the bottom....! So looking at the photos would you class this safe to spike climb still.... |

| Insufficient information/pictures to make a call plus anyone doing so under these conditions risks a lot as the term "safe" is not for us to say, ever.

Good evening Ekka, Thanks for the quick reply, Ive included a few more pics! Monster palms like this one usly dont worry me.. as we do a 4 or 5 a week but as its close to HV lines, a lot of roots showing at the base and no where to tie it back in to, I thought I would get some advice! Thanks Paul. |

You're stating the same facts, and asking if anyone on the forum would climb it, and if so then it would be safe for you to climb? I doubt anyone would make that call without personally inspecting the tree. The comfort zone of anyone person often varies from day to day. But I have heard NewGuy (USA) likes to do dangerous trees. Post a note to him, fly him over and he can (prob) do the job for you. I'm pretty sure he would like the opportunity to visit Oz. ![]() But another local climber would likely be cheaper. |

well I was thinking about the replys I have had and I think I have not explain my self to well so here it goes again the palm in question has over 40cm in the root system showing from the bottom up wards and since its right next to HV lines and it has a lean of over 1 meter.. I just wanted to know any ones thoughts on the condtion on this palm (the head still looks healthly). If it was not so close to the HV power lines I would not be here asking for some advice. Have a great day. Paul |

They look like LV cables HV are the top ones on a power pole and don't go to the house. as to the question of safe like everyone else says, it is impossibe to tell without giving it a personal inspection, quite simply if you dont feel comfortable with it then don't climb it. get a subby in to do it! i know several that will take that on if they feel its within their limits.
