I am tired of the neighbors using my lot to park their cars in front of. They litter and damage my trees and plants. What would be the best tree to plant to discourage their parking? I'm looking for something like a cross between a breadfruit and a honey locust that could grow in southern Ohio. |

What is a breadfruit? Don't think you can threaten illegal parkers with a healthy or young tree. How about a "tow away zone" sign?

Second I take it that although they are allowed to park legally they damage your property and litter it, is that correct? Some people consider the trees on the footpath (verge etc) theirs but even if they planted them they belong to council. Whilst I understand that discouraging them from being there prevents the mess, you may want to check with local council as to the planting and ownership issues of the problem. Imagine in a turn of events if you planted illegally and the council billed you for removing the trees? Just thinking outside the box.

Birds crap every 15 minutes, so how about bird feeders, (just thinking outside the box in a malicious way). |

It is legal for them to park in front of my house. It is also OK per the HOA for me to plant trees along the street. BTW, a breadfruit grows about 60ft high and bears fruit that weighs 1 - 1 1/2lbs. My Hawaiian friends tell me it really does a number on cars, denting them and sliming them. The Honey Locust, of course, has 2-3" thorns. I'm looking for a "Thorny Crappenberry Tree". So pros, what is the nastiest tree? Do Mulberries damage paint? |

I doubt the Breadfruit would be suitable to our climate (Ohio). Thorns of Hlocust aren't going to hurt anyone up in the tree. Can't believe a local govt. lets public plant inappropriate trees in the lawn space such as the mess that is Mulberries. I am on my local UFB. Is your concern really tree damage or rather them taking your (perceived) parking spaces in front of your res./bus.? |
