Default Wisteria!

Does anyone know what is the best way to get rid of Wisteria. I believe it's the Chinese variety!
What isn't growing up in the trees is vining all over the ground!
I'd turn my goats loose on it but it can be toxic to them!
I've heard one can cut the vine off at the ground and paint herbicide on the stump but that would turn into a career with all I have!

Wow. That stuff sells for a lot at nurseries around here. I have never seen it get that far out of control before. I have several in pots here. It is supposed to be deer-proof, but the deer eat it here. So I doubt that it is that poisonous (deer are very pickey about what they eat, though they do eat my poisonous tomatoes and potatoes).

As for goats, I hate them more than the invasive plants around here. I made the GF get rid of them. They eat everything, knock stuff down, and they will eat your clothes off you back if you let them. Sheep are bad enough... but at least they do not pee on their own heads when they are in rut, and they do not knock stuff down. They will gurdle trees though.

BTW: I would snip the plants at the base of the trees and let the vines in the trees die out. You can also dip the cut ends (root side) with an herbicide to kill them off. Garlon is good for woody plants. I mix 1 part Garlon to 3 parts ag oil and use that to dip cut ends of blackberry vines into, and it kills them dead. Also works on Scotch Broom.

We have one wisteria vine growing into a chesnut tree here. GF likes it. Hardly invasive though. One trunk. I'd say maybe dig the stuff up and sell it on Ebay! Turn your problem into profit. It is commonly sold in bare root this time of year.

Go around the tree and cut them off and also remove about a foot of the trunk because I have seen it reattach after being cut! Also don't spray round up around the tree.
