I have 6 willow oaks planted and all are doing well but 2 of them have lost all leaves except the very top portion. The trees are approximately 8-10 ft tall and have been planted for about a month. They were fertilized by the landscaper and have pvc pipe running to the root base. We have had some rain but not a whole lot here. I have water several times and I usually put 2 gallons in the tubes as directed. Do I need to water more?

Roots that absorb water start at the surface and go down. Plastic tubes installed at the time of planting put water at the bottom of the root ball. Why not just water the root ball until it's saturated? Forget the plastic tubes - water the root ball and the surrounding soil out to a 3 or 4 foot radius beyond the root ball. |
