Unhappy Wild Cherry Tree

Hi,
I had a wild cherry tree in my garden which branches were coming up through the grass, etc. so I had it taken down a couple of days ago, although the trunk remains in the ground. I was told to pour milk on it to destroy it.
The trouble is, I miss this tree terribly and cannot stand to look out of my window. Is there any way it will grow back or will I have to destroy the trunk and start again? I thought I could just get the offending roots up from the lawn and let it grow again.
Any help would be appreciated.
J Moore.

Thats a shame moorej, if you'd kept some of the branches you might have been able to strike some cuttings, but the chances of getting any stump shoots to develop into anything worth retaining are very slim, you're much more likely to end up with something looking very much like a coppice;

my advice is to remove the stump (have it ground out) and start again. maybe this time have an area in the lawn with turf removed dedicated to the growth of the tree, as much space as you can, well mulched 2-3inches thick not touching the stem of the new sapling.

I'm with Boa, start again.

But the milk thing, that's a new one on me.

How is milk going to destroy a stump?

Maybe the local goat will come and eat it.

Ekka!

I thought you were a seasoned arborist! Didn't you know cherry trees are lactose intolerant

poison the stump as any roots left in the lawn may sucker only grind out when sure the stump is dead
