Default White Pines/red Maple

I had 2 large, 20' white pines turn brown and die this summer, both side by side. When I cut them down the limbs were brittle and dead. I now have another similar size white pine in another area of the properity that has turned brown completely and is dead. I live in Indiana and we have all kinds of weather, but never this problem. I also have a 20+' Red Maple that the bark on the lower trunk has come loose and fell off this summer. I brushed on orange shellac to keep the bugs from eating the rest of the bark..As you can see I need some advice on what to do especially with the White Pines. I plan on taking out the stumps and replacing them with approx 14' White Pines...we are using these trees primarely as a privacy block.

Need pics-trees, branches, stems to give advice. But if White Pines are dying - doesn't it make sense to plant another species - maybe spruce or cedar or yews for privacy?
