Hi All, Im wondering what is the general feeling about what people are prepared to pay for a contract groundy who has his own saws and can double as a backup climber/rescuer if needed (CERT III qualified). Uses own vehicle or can drive anything up to a B double. I know there are lots of people doing casual $250 per day but i have a few guys i work for who want experience and insurance from a groundy. Currently doing $330 per day |

Sounds about right,if they keep paying you that your worth it. when someone sets a figure they want to "subby" i dont negotiate i just don't use there services if there not worth it.Like if i go into a shop and i think something is priced to high i just don't buy it. Own saws and really gets thru jobs without yaking all day should probably get a bit more than your asking IMHO

If the work is there and they/you get through it and maintain your own gear and truck lic like you say, i think that $330 is very good for the company and probably a bit low for you. 8 or ten hr day though? I would have thought $45/hr if they/you perform. I know lawnmowing offsiders who earn $50/hr because they are that good. |

I would go along with 50 per hour esp since have own saws, own transport, own insurance and know what you are doing. You are working as a tree service come to help, and except for not having the contract, you are everything else. If you are really good, and they need you 50 an hour might be low. But, also depends how much work is available or how much you need work. Sometimes working for a little less, gets you hired more often. Good climbers are harder to come by, and if they respect you and what you can do, most companies are willing to pay more, esp if you are a great worker and get things done, and are available when they need you,

| and this is basically "value", so if 25 is value for money then you arent getting a good worker/contractor. If 50 is value for money then they must be good.

The reason i was asking is because the they are giving more work than i can do. Originally i only wanted to groundy when my own work was low. Now i can easily get 4-5 days/week. I am thinking that $330 a day is a bit on the low side considering the main saw i use is either the 346 for the odd cut feeding into a chipper or the 660 for ripping. Probably time to talk dollars to the guys again. Thanks guys |
