Hello, I am new to this site. I live in Massachusetts and we are trying to figure out what type of tree to plant in the front of our house. We are looking for a tree that flowers, that will not grow past 25 feet in height and no more than maybe 10 feet in width. Also, we do not want a tree that will have roots that grow about the soil and ruin our walkways which is why we need to cut down the birch tree that was planted 10 years ago. This birch tree's root grew on the lawn and kept spreading everywhere and destroyed out walkway. Any thoughts?

Hey DebbieLP, What type of tree is a good question, what you need to is drive around your imediate surrounding area and have a look at mature trees that take your fancy go in and knock on the door and ask if they have any dislikes, while your there your can look and see if it's doing damage to any thing like lifting paths etc..etc. by doing this you can see what will flurish in your area and gain insight to what the tree will look like in 10 to 15 years time given it has been properly looked after. Then you need to source of healthy specimen from a reputable supplier who's reputation and lively hood relies on the supply of GOOD quality sapplings. This is about the best advise I can give, as I live and work in Australia.
