I have this tree in my backyard and in the morning, i see something falling from it and when i go closer I see an OILY substance raining from the tree!!!! The leaves are reddish purple. Now that the oil has stopped 'raining' there are weird oily bumbs on the higher limbs and most of the leaves that aren't already fallen thick and covered with oil! Now i notice that there is a load of white small cockroaches living on and around the tree. Is there anything i can do to keep the tree? It used to be a great looking tree and provided much appreciated shade on my deck! What should i do to keep the tree or is it already too damaged/sick to keep? thanks! |

Unless that tree has an extrordinary number of lenticils I'd say it's getting hammered by some weevil or borer. The oily stuff most likely honeydew from secretions, the cockroach things could be eating those secretions. Usually ants will lap it up to. A good dose of Confidor should do the trick, looks very similar to the damage that the lantana bug did to our fiddlewood trees here.
