Hi all, Have a small property in Northern NSW beside a river that floods every now and then and would like to plant fruit/nut trees but not sure which ones will survive the occasional flood (every 2-3 years they might go under for 2-3 days). Would like to plant macadamia's, mango, avocado, citrus etc ... not interested in anything that gets attacked by fruit fly. Any suggestions? |

Most fruit trees by their nature grow in richer soils that are not inundated by floodwaters. In fact, there aren't a lot of species that can tolerate flooding for 2-3 days, in part because surface flooding is the visible part, soil flooding often takes much longer to subside, and during this time, the roots are often starved for oxygen.
