Hey everyone Just wondering if anyone knows the formula to calculate the weight of standing trees (delimbed)? |

If the tree is shaped basically like a cone, you would apply that formula to it or use a triangle bottom to top for the cubic volume of 1 degree width, and then multiply by 360. Estimating the weight would be more difficult since the density of wood varies by species and by the amount of water within the wood, When I get asked this question, I generally say tons or lots,

Thanks for that! After a bit of further research I think I have solved it. Weight of a cylinder = volume x density Volume of a second degree paraboloid using Smalian's Formula is (this is basically a curved cylinder with one end being smaller than the other) V = H x (S + s) / 2 Where S is the basal sectional area and s is the top basal area. To get the area of the circle section is PI x (D^2/4) Then its just a matter of finding the density of the particular timber, which usually can be found online. Hope that makes sense. |
