Default watering in drought

Water tank holding 13000 litres is now in our garden of a block of flats. And the water 'fights' have started! We have 30/40 year old silver birch. Several have died in the last 4 years. The soil is relatively sandy (St Kilda VIC). How much water do they need? And how often? We can soak from mains on two days and or use our water wheelie bins (75ltres). I'm sure the person who waters now is applying far too much water. I am seeking experienced, qualified advice please, so that I can bring it to committee.

Thanks

Hello Edan

If your body corporate seriously want meaningful advice that is able to address the specifics of your site and your trees then they need to spend money, engage a qualified Arborist from your area to visit the site and inspect the trees and the soil and root conditions.

All that anyone can give you without inspecting the site is general statements about variable evapotranspiration rates, soil moisture gradients, generic soil suction values etc...Whilst all of that is useful in an academic sense and aids in understanding the results of specific assessments you still need the specific assessment.
