Hi, Let me introduce myself,my name is Andy and I enjoy walks on the beach and intimate evenings by the.... Actually I used to be an amenities gardener but I fill my time now as a baffled home owner who works with wood for a living. We have moved into a 50's weatherboard home that has a Fejoa tree, Peach tree and a massive Photinia. The rest is pretty much a 6 inch thick matt of kikuyu grass. I'm baffled because it's so hard to find info on trees that show the mature height and form. Most info is just leaf and flower close ups. So first question is can anyone recommend a reference book or otherwise for this sort of info? Secondly I want to plant a dwarf Sugar gum (E.cladocalyx 'nana') in the front yard where the photinia is but it seems the mains water supply from the street to the house is right where I want to plant it. It's a skinny little steel pipe from what I can tell so I would have thought if planted about a metre away it might be ok. Any info at all on this is appreciated. Can anyone tell me anything about this species of tree? Thanks for a top site too. Cheers, Andy |

Ah, it's hard with books. Many species like eucs have their own books. Here the botanical gardens have a library and it's good to go there and look through the books. If you see one you like, order it from a book shop etc. Then there's local area books, written for specific areas and what the trees/shrubs are .... very handy those books. Now the water pipe, 1m may be a little close to allow for any larger roots and trunk dia etc. As far as the Eucalyptus cladocalyx nana goes try this.

Thanks for that, I've googled everything there is on E.cladycalyx and it's many names and rellies. It seems worthy of a spot from most accounts. Same deal with the library but thanks for replying all the same as it's always worth it. It's only a small copper pipe so I'll talk to a plumber I know because it might be easy to bypass the existing one and re route it in a favourable position. Or he might say I'm an idiot. Cheers, Andy |
