Hi, I am renovating a very old house and there is a walnut tree about 1 meter from the front door, which my builder would like to cut down so that a porch can be built. However, I am worried about the impact on the house if this tree is cut down. Would it cause subsidence? But if left would it cause subsidence, as there are no foundations in the house. I live in Bulgaria, the land is clay and flint, so very hard and i'm about 500 meters above sea level |

We really need to see some pics and see the size of the tree etc. How old is the house and tree? Has any subsidence occured yet? You say the house has no foundation, what is under the house, anything?

Hi thanks for that, but I have posted a photo. The house is about 150 years old. I don't know how old the tree is - it is in the photo It is about just over a meter from the front door There is nothing under the house, it is sat on clay and flint. The lower level of the house is made of stone There is no evidence of subsidence at the moment. Thanks Seven |
