variegated maples

so i was in another town, and they had planted some new trees along the downtown streets, this one really caught my eye, it was a green and white maple tree, the leaves were green edged in white. I did not have my camera with me. but i am wondering, is this a new kind of maple? or is it so disease prone that not many people plant them as this is the first time i have seen one, never seen them in nurseries either. I would love to have one as i love trees with green and white, or purple/red leaves.

Need a pic to know for sure, but sounds a bit like Harlequin Maple -- a variety of Norway Maple (Acer platanoides) with green and creamy white leaves - more white with more sun, has tendency to revert to original,.
