Default Unknown Fruit Tree...(picture)

A tree in my area has some sort of strange fuit growing off of it. There are several of these hanging from the tree. One finally fell and I was able to take a closer look and I have NO clue what this is. Before I crack it open, I was hoping someone could identify. Any help?

Looks more like Lagenaria siceraria grows on a vine.

Ye. Are you sure it isn't a vine growing on the tree? Looks like a gourd to me.
