Default Tulip poplar tree help

I have a tulip poplar that is a young tree it is only about 7ft. This year when the leaves budded out they started turning brown and fell off. There are limbs on the tree that are dead but on some of the branches there seems to be new leaf buds coming. There is a mature poplar that is about 50 ft away from this young tree that is about 20 ft in height the leaves at the top of that tree look like they look when it is fall and they are getting ready to drop. We did have a late cold snap but none of my other trees were effected and I have some sensitive trees that would have lost their leaves and they have not. I just don't know what could be going on with it and I don't want to loose it. Thanks for any suggestions.

Have you fertilized the yard beneath the trees? If so, with what?

I don't know whether anyone is still checking this thread over a year later but I am having a similar problem. I just planted a tulip poplar this summer. It looked beautiful when I planted it. A few days later it looked great in the morning but when I got home in the evening every single leaf on it was brown! I thought maybe it was in shock. I have been watering it since then and there seems to be new growth - I see little buds all over it but as soon as the buds turn to tiny leaves, the leaves turn brown and die! I did not use any fertilizer but the day I planted it I did use a root stimulator that was recommended to me by someone in the garden section of one of the big chain stores. I have not used any since the initial planting. Is there anything I can do for this tree to help it?

How about some pics of how the tree looks and the site. Is the new tulip tree planted close to where the previous tree was planted? If another tree nearby has similar problems, it suggests a problem within the soil - fungus, buried material within the soil, lots of things - pics could help a lot

How did the tree come? was the root ball dried out when planted? was the soil soaked ahead of planting? was the tree transported a long way without being protected? Need more info to take the query further.

My tulip poplar tree is mature (30 ft) and is currently flowering. The leaves have sap on them and appear "shiny". Wanted to know if this normal?

Can you post some pics of the tree, leaves, and flowers?

It probably has tuliptree aphids, a common insect pest---the "honeydew" secreted by the aphids makes the leaves appear shiny.
