Default Tulip Poplar Disease

I have a tulip poplar that I planted this past spring. Had amazing growth and budding, with in last few weeks has started to have leaves yellow and brown and die. Have several pictures to help. Thank you ahead for any and all suggestions.

Hows the earth its planted in, wet poor drainage, dry hard etc need to know a few things to try to help. It looks planted tad deep this wont help.
Clear away the grass from base try to use a light mulch in this area rather than allow grass to grow over here. This helps a few ways, allows in good air & keeps in good moisture while removes competition from grass and keeps your cord cutter away from tree bark.

At first I thought, well its your Autumn now perhaps just beginning leaf fall, but many trees in back shot look deciduous and far away from that stage. But I travelled northern hemisphere and is about now you get fall leaf colour??

A little wet on the slightly upper end of of a small lull in the yard. Will clear some grass away and if able can or should I try to raise how deep it is planted?

Our autumn is just barely starting starting to see some color in trees but just recent. Has been slightly warmer later into season here. I am in Central California, right now averages of mid 70's F but only for last week and a half.

Clear the grass dont try to lift tree just yet see if planted to deep look for the root flare it should just be below soil surface and how is the soil if wet dank smell may be the issue.

Cleared some grass away, see picture and let me know if more is needed. When cleared grass found several pill bugs or roly poly bugs (in the teens at first glance) Not sure about root flare but there were some roots not too deep. Also there is some new budding happening. Have been having mid 70s degree weather with all sunny days.
