Default Tree trunk with thorns

I live in Florida and have found a tree in a wooded area that has thorns like tacks sticking out of the trunk at right angles all the way up the trunk. The trunk is about three inches wide. The leaves are arranged like those of an ash. I have never seen a tree like this in my life and am wondering where it's from.

It could be a Hura crepitans, Hura brasiliensis Wild i.e. possum tree

we can now see it but for future use
first click on the paperclip above, click browse then find the picture you want to embed, click upload.
next right click the uploaded file in the management box, click properties, then highlight and copy the http address,
click the square with the mountains and sun, remove the http thats there, then right click and paste click ok and that should be it for you.

I looked up the possum tree - the leaves don't match. The leaves on my tree are like those of a hickory. I also looked up a kapok tree but although more similar, the leaves of the kapok are fan out more. If you have any more suggestions, let me know. Thanks.

Check out this thread too.

spikey bark

Pretty hard without leaf and flower/fruit shots, likely in the Ceiba genus though.

He's saying it could be a "hercules club" tree.

Looked up Chorisia speciosa - this trunk has more spikes than mine, and leaves are fan-shaped instead of in pairs along leaf stem, as my tree is. Guess I'll have to wait till it flowers and fruits.

Has it ever flowered? If you could get a photo of just the leaf, bud, stem, and if possible, flower or fruit, (plant morphology) someone on this site will be able to id it for you. I mean, these guys keep thier skills sharp IDing fungi on this site, way past my skills. How cool is that? To get back on track, bark only give a small percentage of the needed information needed to ID this tree.
