Default Tree Suckers or Saplings...

So my wife thinks these are saplings... I think they are suckers... what do you think and how do we get rid of them?

If they are attached to the roots or base of the trunk they are suckers, if they pull out with their own dedicated root system the are seedlings.
I'm not sure of the correct method of control if these are suckers, but if they are seedlings you do not want them mow them! or pull them out and mulch the drip zone of the tree.

I agree, if seedlings, mow and mulch. Even if they are suckers
, mow, mow, mulch.

Thanks,

They are definetly suckers then. Would using a tiller on the top soil to chop up the suckers get rid of them?
