Default tree decay

Hi ,

For a Iron bark tree 45 m tall leaned at 75 degree and a open wound ( cavity) at 5 mt of stem. Is it appropriate to use Mattheck and Breloger method and notional defect equation t/R in this case ?
Thanking you in anticipation.

Default Re: tree decay

We do not know how far around the circumference the wound extends.

We do not know if rams horns have developed.

We do not know of other VTA data such as reaction wood, fibre buckling, canopy bias, canopy density, trunk flare, buttress roots, cracks or splits etc.

We do not know topographic fact such as soil type, targets, predominant wind, drainage, other vegetation, restrictions to root growth etc.

To rely on one criteria alone is seldom enough and would not be any authors intention, there's many criteria to be considered and many solutions to increase it's stability without felling the whole tree.
