Hi... I live in Herndon, VA (west of DC). I lost a nice white oak tree this year and just had it cut down. The tree workers said it was killed by "borers" so I've been looking into this problem. Sadly, we checked the other tree's and another white oak in my yard is also infected, as well as a pine tree in the yard behind mine. My ash, apple, maple and another tree seem unaffected. They say this bug will eventually infect all the trees and sprayed a chemical on the lower bark of all the trees and on the felled timber. I removed some bark from the felled oak but didnt find any larvae. I did find what looks like emerging adults. They are medium brown and not spotted but I think it's because they were inside the bark and thus not fully colored. The exit holes are round and about the size of typical construction nail. So I'm not exactly sure which borer/beetle I have. I covered the felled timber with a tarp, hopefully preventing any emerging adults from spreading. Now what I really want is to save my last oak tree! Again, it was sprayed with some chemical that begins with an "M", but I doubt that will fix it. Any ideas, recommendations and/or professional references would be appreciated. Email is "pdsway" at gmail-dot-com. Thanks! |

Any pics of the bugs, and the tree that was removed (while standing) and the existing trees - would help.

Also likely they did a trunk drench using PENTRA-BARKŪ Very tough task killing borers.
