I have a Thunderchild Crabapple tree in our front yard. We have a lot of little song birds that hang out in the tree and we were also hit with a hail storm last year and I am wondering if either contribute to our pathetic looking tree. Our neighbours have one and it is FULL of leaves and flowers during the summer and ours looks like it's stuck in winter. I will try and upload a photo so you can see what I mean. Any advice would be appreciated. |

maybe it is just me but it looks like your tree is on it's last legs, it has very little growth and none of the growing tips seem to be growing, i also see something wrapped around the base of the tree. is that tight and cutting into the bark? if it is it might be girdling the tree, it also would not hurt to take the grass out around the tree and place some mulch there, if the branches with no growth are very brittle and break when bent they are dead and can be trimmed back to healthy growing points. if they are flexible then their might be hope

Need better pics of branch ends, the buds -- and as Treeluver says, try bending a branch and seeing how flexible it is.
