Unhappy That Tangerine again!

Ol?, G'day

Back again with some new probs on my ailing Tangerine. It has never been right but some new growth during the last few months was giving me hope.

Then I spotted Mildew on some of the leaves, some sort of bug that exudes a sweet liquid I believe, small and white they are.

Then though, on closer inspection I spotted lots of what I can only say looked like little "Limpets" (of the sea variety) all over me little tree.

They are about 2-9mm in diameter, grey/white with orange (ironically) markings and have like lots of fine white legs, when I squash them an orange puss comes out.

I include a piccy but I'm afraid my camera is no good for close-ups. The little culprits are just below the freshly cut branch around centre right of the photo.

Do you know what it is

Muito Obrigado,

Nick.

Aphids

Aphid Treatment

Go get some bug spray from a nursery/gardening joint and kill'm all.

You'll get mildew/mould sticking to the secreted honeydew, white oil for that and hose off.

WD40

You obviously forgot to light it up too!

Same procedure, spray then next day white oil.

You wait till Treeseer sees this, you are gonna cop it. LOL

Nice one Nick WD40 LMAO I've heard of people being worried by creaking old giants but oiling the hinges on such a young sapling!! Hopefully you washed it all off before any serious damage was done, the limpets sound like scale insects....still sounds like the problem lies between soil and roots to me.

That's a point Sean, how can I wash off the oil effectively. White spirits, thinners???

It looks as though the WD-40 has killed the little blighters, the limpet (scale insects) type critters are turning a dark orange and beginning to drop off.
Mind you, so are some of the leaves.

Don't suppose we'll see any fruit this year then.

Soapy water, hose off.

Any fruit will be a bonus for sure this year, not sure what it would taste like ... Shell, Castrol, Mobil?

Hoping I wasn't going to have to come back here with this but:
Well, 5.5 months on my Clementine seems none the worse for its WD40ing.
(no brainer me!)

There is some new growth lower down now and I wandered if it looks OK or if it needs cutting off.
(I would Google it, ya know, pruning clementines? but that's how I found "Treeworld" so I'm Treeworlding it again, much better).

Some up to date piccys:

Notice the new growth only the sun side of the trunk:

Bark mulch has been added, according to advice received here:

Many Thanks for any helpful advice, I do appreciate it. What follows is simply a nice beach pic from our area, hope you enjoy:

Now there's an offer.

Would love to see you here and can provide double room with "almost on suite" luxurious conditions, breakfast and loads a booze. Sight seeing thrown in (Clementine included).

Unfortunately, Budget will not stretch any futher than this, what more do you want though!

Clementine,

Sorry to bust your chops here but I recalled reading something several years ago, and thought I should look it up. Here is what it says "just as in medicine, prescription befor diagnosis is malpractice; the arborist must understand tree biology before embarking on a program of care". Text from pg 1 of Arborists' Certification Study Guide, International Society of Arboriculture.

While your photos are fantastic, it is near to impossible to diagnose ailments that you speak of on the internet. The members here can offer you a best guess diagnosis, but it is just that, a free best guess.

The new growth that you speak of appears to be a bit chloritic, usually due to the lack of iron. But due to light issues of the photos, and other things that this specimen may of had done, I will reserve any opinion.

I was going to recommend a home-owner safe spray that you might want to try, but I wouldn't want to be the reason for your trees death.

At this time I believe that you have learned a great deal about the field of arboriculture. You are wise to the questions to ask and able to rely on the people here for a second opinion. Think it might be time to ask for a referral to an arborist in your area, to do some hands on inspection.

I wish you good luck in your tree endevours.

Tree Dimensional is right and its something I probably always forget to write each time we really can't give more than a best guess ever on the internet.

Clemmy WTF are you doing to your trees!!! Get some of that seaweed extract and use it the clementime does not look great, the good news for you is that young saplings are very forgiving...did you cut the top out of that tree...I see future problems there mate

I did trim some dead bits from the top, they had died last summer and that was when I spotted the mildew and limpets.
Seaweed extract is on the way

Thanks very much for the advice.
