Default Tall Mexican tree fern

Hello everyone, I am a keen home gardener and have a question about the mexican tree fern. I have planted several in my garden and they are growing very fast!. One in particular has reached quite a height and I am concerned that the top might break and fall off or worse still, the whole tree suddenly comes down. I have some eucalypts in the garden that also drop branches, thats enough to contend with! My actual question is..if I could get a good portion of the tree cut off? Would the tree then make a few branches and fill out a bit more in the trunk or will that kill the tree?

I live in Brisbane, Queensland Australia. Attached is a pic of the tree concerning me most right now!

Thanks newguy! The fronds are only just budding, when it has all opened up it's really beautiful. I must say, if the kookaburras dont stop perching on them and causing them to break off, there wont be any left to grow big! This is a better pic of the top.

Visit these threads.

Mexican fern tree felling

This dead Schizolobium parahyba| Mexican fern tree| failed 4 days later

IMHO you made a grave error planting that junk, fastest growing thing in SEQ and very brittle.

Remove and get something a lot better than that.

Did you see me on Current Affair tonight?
