Is there some information out there on how to deal with strangler figs? If heritage trees are affected can the fig be removed? If so is there a point beyond which its not possible to remove the fig? Does it matter if the fig is left? I guess it takes many (100s) of years to kill a large host tree thanks papillon |

Do you have a particular heritage tree(s) in mind? I am likely to be reasonably close to Mossman before the newyear and will grab any excuse to visit heritage trees. There is at least one good Arborist in Cairns as well (probably more but I only know one) If you intervene early it is possible to reduce the impact of a strangler fig on the host tree....generally though if the host tree is healthy it can take more than 100yrs before the fig wins out. | |
