Default Strange Sapling

I recently found a sapling outside that had a redbud leaf and buckeye leaves. I dont believe this is a common occurrence so I decided to ask a forum what it thinks. Is this just one type of tree with a mutated leaf? Did I misidentify it?

Sometimes immature leaves look very different from the final shape. Redbud (Cercis sp) of the Leguminosae Family is not related to a Buckeye (Aesculus sp) Hippocastanaceae Family and a development of both leaves on the same tree is naturally impossible. It could happen in Science Fiction, perhaps.........

isn't 'Leguminosae' now called 'Fabacae' ?

Don't know if that is true or not. I know the people that name species think new names are for the best, and after a bit they often decide to go back to the old name because it is what everybody knows.
And the whole process is really confusing. I just stand at the sidelines and watch. If I was to incorporate the new names, I would end up considerably more confused than I already am, and who knows what I would start thinking or doing. Sanity lies with old knowledge -- at least for species' names.

After all, the tree and all its characteristics hasn't changed -- just the Latin name we want to ascribe to it,

And there is another possibility, but not a sapling that size. On larger trees, sometimes in a cleft, or a rotting branch base a different species will root, allowing two kinds of foliage in the space, and to a casual looker, on the same tree.

Well there are a couple redbuds and redbud saplings in the area and the leaves on the saplings look exactly like the leaf on the right whereas the leaf on the left looks like the sapling red buckeye I have growing on my patio. I'll take a second look.

i think what you have there is a Virginia Creeper vine (Parthenocissus quinquefolia) seedling, look at this image of the virginia creeper seedling, the birds eat the berries and most likely pooped the seed in your yard
