Hi We have a lot of oaks and maples around our property and we get lots of acorns and polynoses. So we're getting a lot of new tiny trees popping up everywhere. Instead of spending all my time pulling these things out of the garden, the lawn, the deck, the driveway,..., is there anything else I can do to get rid of them and to stop them from growing in the first place? Many thanks for any help you can provide! - Tanya |

Cutting the trees down is the only solution, it is a problem world wide, but we plant these trees and have to live with our mistakes

Many oaks propagate by putting up root sprouts. This may be what you are experiencing. Additionally squirrels are famous for burying acorns and \then forgetting where they are. If they are truly acorns spouting, you can pull them up by first soaking the area with water and then grasping the seedling with a pair of pliers at the base of the plant. Herbicides may work but will always have unforeseen consequences - especially if they are root sprouts instead of seedlings. Proceed with caution. |
